Cool. Can you upload it somewhere to share? I would love to see your
changes; it sounds intriguing.

I have uploaded a bzr branch on Launchpad[1] and there is a deb package
from that on my PPA[2].

Licensing details are freshly tidied up in the bzr branch, too, so if
you could take a look at it (and maybe base yours off of it in the
interest of tidiness - I may merge it, if you're interested), that would
be awesome.
