There were other points against it. The Wikipedia article on the font
says:

	When originally released, the droid font was accompanied by an apache
license, but the EULA field in the font header stated the standard,
closed, Ascender Eula, this was fixed[3] on December 9th, 2008 to
reflect the proper apache license which most of Android uses for its
release.

I guess the fonts have an Apache license, then, which makes it
DFSG-compatible, and OK for use in Ubuntu.
