The vertical edges of the orange arrow are not on the same height. You
should make use of the Align and Distribute panel (Ctrl-Shift-A).

For testing symmetry, I copy the object, paste-in-place (Ctrl-Alt-V) and
flip the copy around the axis of symmetry.

To create symmetrical shapes, create one half, copy, flip, place it
exactly next to the first half (using Align tools) and do Path -> Union.
