The problem with reporting a bug for that issue is that gnome's 2.x
development cycle is to solve minor bugs and not to make big changes. For
solving this, gnome would need a complete re-design of the desktop UI.
Steph, I can post a screenshot [attached file] with that bug in a small
screen right now (12'1") with big resolution (1280x800). The problem is that
you have a lot of unused space, even if you have a lot of application
launchers. This is why I decided to work with gnome-do as application
launcher and put the window manager in the upper panel, so as to remove the
bottom panel and save a lot of space.
If users want to have their panels bigger, they can do right now, but I
don't think that this is a good idea.
