doesn't matter much what the splash looks like if people are going to
see horrible icons like the file manager (nautilus) icon. True, it is an
icon issue and not a splash issue. I just created a new user, saw it,
and couldn't resist mentioning the obvious. One of the first things I do
is turn off the splash so I thought I'd check it out before commenting.
The default should be no splash, and a diff wallpaper.

It's like the wallpaper so how good could it be? I agree it's absolutely
horrible. It has nothing to do with the desktop (gtk, metacity, icons),
but again, neither does the wallpaper.
