Hi all,
After more than twelve hours of work on it today I'm finally able to release
an initial version of my Firefox Human theme. I want to encourage all of you
to download it from my webserver (it's less than 350 Kb):
http://www.ffnn.nl/media/external/ubuntu/firefoxhumantheme/human.jar
Please install and test it. After downloading the JAR file, you should open
the "themes" window in Firefox and drag-n-drop the JAR file into the themes
window, confirm the installation and select "Use Theme".
Restart Firefox and you should be enjoying the latest Tangerine and Tango
icons and matching color scheme in all windows (be sure to check the
highlight bar in Preferences and the downloads / themes / extensions windows
with highlighting).
I created some really cool buildscripts to automate the theme building, so all
change requests are very welcome since I can update the theme without manual
intervention. New icons are automatically compiled into the theme.
This leads me to a few requests I want to do to finish the theme, first of all
I'm missing some icons:
- A neutral bookmarks icon without the "add" star (main toolbar)
- A neutral bookmarks icon which is opened (main toolbar)
- A secure / insecure https icon, could be a lock (address bar)
- A lock icon, possibly the same as above (preferences)
- A neutral "tab" icon without "add" (preferences)
- An Add Separator icon (bookmarks window)
- A "Move" action icon (bookmarks window)
- A "Rename" action icon (bookmarks window)
- Two page orientation icons: landscape & portrait (page setup)
- A Plugin / Jigsaw / puzzle piece icon (extensions)
I took some liberties in choosing replacement icons for the 0.1 version. I'll
be able to create some of these icons myself by editing existing icons, but
if they're included in the base icon packages too, that'd be great.
Besides missing icons, I wanted to point out that the "back" and "forward"
arrows at 24x24 are vertically misaligned in the Tangerine package, maybe
someone could fix these (all apps have these)?
I will publish my buildscripts soon, they're very well written and make
editing the theme a breeze. I've put the theme under local version control
(CVS) so you'll be able to check out any changes I made via ViewCVS later.
Tomorrow I'll be starting on the real "preview" image (the current one's a
placeholder) and finish some of the easy-to edit icons. I'll also create a
proper webbased installation routine.
I'll be looking forward to offers from you all to help out. Let me know if
you're interested in contributing something.
So, enjoy the ride and let me know what you think of it.
With kind regards,
Frank Schoep
