Hello,

As you note earlier, i mention this idea. One of my two brother which  
stay with Windows® tell me the same.

A quick and dirty theme switcher could easily be done with :
  - a simple app (in python/perl/...) which just list themes+icon.
  - theme tarball are archive to extract at /. (this need root  
privileges, burk).
  - the apps make sure the theme is instantly applied (gtk/metacity/ 
icons & background).

Maybe this can be added in universe if dapper is deported in may.
