Seriously cool technique. I agree with Étienne though, the wallpaper in the
last link cuts the desktop too much in two parts for my liking.

As you suggest this could do good as a unifying theme for splashes,
wallpapers and such, I am totally with you on that. Maybe even metacity
borders?

The danger in doing this pervasively is that the desktop might become to
"spacy" if you know what I mean. -- Too futuristic.
