Well, I dont know if we need a terminal emulator.

Ubuntu is a linux-beginner distro. I'd go for usplash without scrolling
text.
Even the text was freaking out some beginners so ... We don't want to scare
them :)

Seriously, focus the usplash with a higher resolution and color depth.
