I must say that I kind of disagree with this. I support open
standards, but I do not work with the GIMP. I cannot work with the
GIMP and I will not do so in the future, as I am an artist, and I
care about getting work done; at this moment, I get work done using
Photoshop, as would be the same for many other artists. Therefore, I
can only share "final" versions of my artwork in non-layered files
(or proprietary layered files).

To remake my art in GIMP so that I can share an XCF would take too
much time for me.

If submissions in non-layered formats are suddenly no longer accepted
for the produce phase, you are essentially locking me out from
contributing. That's a big difference with the mail that I sent to
the list earlier about not forcing people to use open software for
their contributions, which many people agreed with.

Having said that, I'm glad that this phase has finally begun. I'll be
actively submitting some of the stuff that I've been working on
behind the scenes. I intend to especially put effort in a wallpaper,
GTK/Metacity theme and usplash for the failsafe style. I'll try my
best to remain as open as possible, despite not being able to share
XCF versions of my work. I assume that whatever I make can probably
easily be picked up by someone else even if it is flattened, though.
