Actually the new binary package provides the old transitional package:

https://sources.debian.org/src/golang-github-prometheus-client-
golang/1.2.1-3/debian/control/#L36

Yet, I submitted merge requests on salsa for all the mentioned packages
which still build/runtime depend on the old transitional package.

Unfortunately this is one of the reasons why src:prometheus FTBFS on
Focal at the moment:
