You have been subscribed to a public bug by Steve Langasek (vorlon):

Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 contain 2 packages with the same software:

- jplayer: Ubuntu-only package, contains an old version (1.2.0). This package has been available since 11.10.
- libjs-jquery-jplayer + jquery-jplayer-bluemonday + jquery-jplayer-pinkflag: the Debian package (which I'm the maintainer of), contains a newer version (2.1.0, to be updated this week due to a security fix). This package was first available in 12.10.

IMHO, jPlayer should be provided with the libjs-jquery-jplayer package
and the 'jplayer' package be reduced to a transitional package.

The transition plan would be like this:
- I will add to libjs-jquery-jplayer these fields: "Replaces: jplayer (<< 2.1.0~)" and "Conflicts: jplayer (<< 2.1.0~)" and maintain them at least until Ubuntu 12.04 LTS runs ouf of support.
- You will add to jplayer this field: "Depends: libjs-jquery-jplayer". This package needs to be separately maintained because I will not be providing it in Debian (it is not required in Debian and, furthermore, it violates the Debian archive policy in regards to package naming).

Please tell me what you think

** Affects: jplayer (Ubuntu)
