I'm Chinese and I do know how necessary encoding conversion is for
Japanese and Chinese people.

However, as pointed out by another Japanese Debian developer, ack is pretty much useless today:

There is a more viable open source project also want to use the name ack:

The above tool is currently referred as ack-grep in Debian/Ubuntu.
It should be referred as ack as in many other OS/distribution.

As Ubuntu has command-not-found enabled by default, people may type
"ack", install this package and get confused.
