The errors are clearly showing that the same crashes started in 0.88.1-1 and continued all the way throughout to 0.90.
Including people using saucy...
Including people fetching packages from GetDeb services...
Including people using PPAs to install on precise...

If it's not auto-started, do the shortcuts still work and invoke shutter?
Changing the default will not help people who already have it installed.

I like shutter and I wish it would be fixed, but I don't know perl nor quirks in perl-gtk bindings.
Overall it gives bad impression on Ubuntu, I wish it would be black-listed:
"This application is known to crash a lot".
