Lucid has version 2.0.9 of syslog-ng. This is a very old release, many
important features were added to syslog-ng, since 2.X was released.
Ubuntu Maverick has version 3.1.1, and hopefully will get 3.1.2 before
release (which is available in Debian testing and there is a separate
bug for it: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/623181 ).

There are many new features:
- SSL
- database support
- patterndb
- filtering
- rewriting
- etc.

syslog-ng is a leaf package, there are no packages depending on it.

The configuration for version 3.X changed slightly, but syslog-ng can
use the original 2.X configuration file without modifications (it
assumes, that any unversioned configuration files are from 2.0, which is
true in this case).
