You have been subscribed to a public bug by Daniel Holbach (dholbach):

Binary package hint: libtar

Please sync libtar (1.2.11-6) from Debian unstable.

The current version in karmic is 1.2.11-5ubuntu1 which includes a single
change:

libtar (1.2.11-5ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Use autoreconf instead of calling the individual bits, which is far too
fragile. Create an aclocal.m4 that refernces the included macros,
including the libtool ones that are pulled in to the source package.

This change can be dropped as the newer Debian version essentially
contains the same fix:

libtar (1.2.11-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fix autotools usage (Closes: #511741)
