Only sauerbraten has been backported, not sauerbraten-data.  This makes
the  backport uninstallable and is an annoyance if you had the hardy
version installed.

Who is in charge of accepting packages into hardy-backports?  It seems
there is no quality control.  This exact problem also occurred with
alien-arena and openarena, which was just fixed today!  I realise
-backports is not officially supported, but I do wish a tiny bit more
effort would be put into ensuring the packages are installable and have
all their dependencies met.
