(1) prevu uses pbuilder which initializes a clean build environment.
This is necessary to simulate buildd conditions. You'd be surprised at
how much of testing before prevu was junk because someone has 3rd party
packages installed which resulted in very different binaries.

(2) prevu mangles the version number such that backports are lower in
version than the original package.


As far as testing, as stated on the UbuntuBackports wiki pages, only pbuilder/prevu/sbuild built packages are acceptable for testing.
