Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
-D_GNU_SOURCE has been added to CFLAGS in Debian. We can drop the other Ubuntu change, modifying the Maintainer field.

Changelog since current intrepid version 3.01.1-6ubuntu1:

gcal (3.01.1-7) unstable; urgency=low

  * QA upload.
  * debian/control
    - bump Standards-Version to 3.8.0 (no changes needed)
    - better short description
    - added texinfo build-dep, needed to provide makeinfo
