Omitir (# adelante) todo lo que tengas en...

 $ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list 

«universe, multiverse y restricted».


Ejem:

deb http://ubuntu.patan.com.ar/ubuntu/ karmic main restricted
deb-src http://ubuntu.patan.com.ar/ubuntu/ karmic main restricted

Y lo cambias por

deb http://ar.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic main universe multiverse
restricted
deb-src http://ar.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic main universe
multiverse restricted


Puede ser ar.archive.ubuntu.com o ar.releases.ubuntu.com

Luego:
$ apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
