What IM client works best

Hi,
If you are comfortable with an IRC client, I find bitlbee to be a great
solution.

I use this over ssh in a screen session.
Also, a tip for any client you use if you want to get msn back msn can
be accessed as an xmpp jabber account by adding somename at messenger.live.com
even if your msn is a different address than live.com, just add a random
name and then go through the oauth process to authorize the proper address.
There is also a jabber skype gateway through jabbim.com, but it hasn't
been that stable for me. it costs about $9 a year.
