Slow startup of Rythmbox in 11.10, when Music folder populated and Orca screen reader used

Hi, all!
My ~/Music folder now has about 1300 items. When I start Rhythmbox,
there is a long (over 15 minutes) period in which this program is
unresponsive, as if the collection database is rebuilt on every start.
If I don't minimize the window soon enough, my entire x session is
locked until this Rhythmbox is ready. With an empty ~/Music, the
program starts soon enough. I've toggled the 'watch folder for changed'
preference, with no apparent effect. This slow startup of Rhythmbox did
not happen in earlier versions of Ubuntu.
In case it makes a difference, I'm using the Gnome fallback position for
my display. I can try both versions of Unity, if it may make a
difference.
Annoyed,
Dave Hunt
