problems after installing karmic

Hi, I installed a karmic live CD today and discovered that it booted fine, but I could no longer boot my windows operating system. Has anyone else had this problem?
   I used downarrow like I always did by pressing it several times to get to the end of the list. But the system didn't boot at all. I also tried pressing it one time, two times and so on with the same results. 
   So has the way you get to the windows operating system changed too. I realize karmic is still in development, but this and the gdm problems I have are going to cause a lot of trouble for anyone who upgrades expecting things to at least work as they did before.
   I reinstalled the last version of ubuntu again and everything worked fine.
