Strange problem with soundrecorder.

Dear list,
I am Balaraman from India a new member joining you.
  I am facing a very strange problem with  sound recorder after
trying to record news from BBC.
Before I tried to record the audio stream, everything was ok.
But, now though the recording process is done, I am not able to playback
the recording.
I tried to open the recorded file with other players with no success.
I really need your help on this as I do not wish to reinstall Ubuntu as
I had done in the previous occasion.
