system administration

hi list.

ever since I installed ubuntu, I am struggling with making system 
administration speak. I did follow the instruction at the orca wikie page by 
creating a .orptc file in /root and disabling the opropriate option in the 
general tap of orca. but still each time I open anything through the 
administration menu and then enter my password orca hangs. even if from 
gnome-terminal I issue a command like "sudo network-admin" the same happens.

for those of you who had success in this, any comments, or recommendations?

I am running orca version 1.9 pre2
