Hi List,

Our Ubuntu AT community is growing, with both new users and developers
stopping by to contribute. The dapper release has seen several early
adopters (read brave souls) trying Ubuntu for the first time, and some
have stopped by the mailing list with comments or questions (welcome
folks!).

One comment I've seen a few times though, mainly in private emails, is
that the back archive of the list can seem rather technical, which stops
people from joining with basic how-do-I-get-started questions.

We hope and expect to see even more development activity in the team in
this cycle (the next 5 months). We have two Summer of Code projects
going on and several of us from the team will meet up at the Paris
developer summit to discuss specifications for new or improved access
features. I for one would like to see the development discussions on
these new features take place in the open where everyone can
participate, and that means using a mailing list.

I'd therefore like to suggest that we create a separate mailing list for
accessibility development on Ubuntu and keep the current one for helping
users and a more general exchange of ideas on the topic.

The typical worry in doing this is that we will split the community in
two halves, technical and non-technical. I don't think that will be a
problem as long as the traffic on the lists continues to be moderate though.
