With latest (3.7.2-3) upload of debian's brltty, it works pretty well:
it has a udev rules file that make it autostarted whenever a USB braille
device is connected (for serial devices, a kernel "brltty=" parameter
triggers the start too). The framebuffer then gets disabled, and
installation can run fine. This is not (yet) included on official CDs,
but it should be soon.
