Hi. you are aware ibmsst and voxin are the Viavoice tarballs made available
by IBM for free back in 2001? The people selling them just changed the names. What this means for users is
any bugs that existed in the origional Viavoice tarballs can't be fixed. One really bad bug is the fact text strings can crash the synth. See
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=526753
Also, the origional Viavoice tarballs were built using gcc 2.96. This means you will need outdated c++ libs from 2001. Since the libs are no longer in Hardy, there is no reason for Ubuntu to provide the gnome-speech-ibmtts package.
i believe the people selling it have decided to include the out dated lib in there current release, but this isn't a fix for the problem, just an excuse for them to keep selling out dated Viavoice.
Personally, I find these people to be less than ethical. They seem to be taking advantage of new Windows users coming to Linux who want the same Viavoice they have in Windows.
Unfortunately, this isn't the case. Because the web sites for voxin and ibmtts don't worn them in advance they end up purchasing something that doesnt' work.
