Hello,

Yes, the Alsa support is only available in PortAudio V19.

It would be very helpful if tests were done using the recent PortAudio
development release available at:
http://portaudio.com/download.html

If Sound mixing still fail, I would be interesting to get more info on
the chipset. PortAudio supplies the pa_devs command which displays these
info. Under the portaudio source directory, run please
bin/pa_devs > result

Thank you to send the result file.

More details:
eSpeak currently looks for the Alsa 'host' via the PortAudio V19 API.
This host offers several devices depending on the audio chipset. At the
moment, wave.cpp in eSpeak chooses the first Alsa device compliant with
22050Hz samples. Unfortunately, this device is not the default one, or
the device which has the greatest number of output channels.
So an improvement would be to select the device with the max number of
output channels. A patch will be sent soon.

Regarding mono-channel chipsets, I guess that the dmix device could be
selected for software mixing; the output samples of eSpeak might be then
probably converted to 48000Hz though.

Best regards,

Gilles
