Same problem here.  I have been experimenting with Kubuntu 11.10, and
there is not file to fix as mentioned in #5. (By the way, I am running
11.10 on both the server and the client).  I tried LXDE & LXDM to see if
there was any change.  Interesting:  I can sometimes partially log in,
but if more than one account is open they will both freeze.  Could all
this be related to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source

Has anyone tried an nfs downgrade to a previous version?
