Handy, thanks for the link.  My usual expectation is that the person can simply
say "oh, I do a lot through [bzr|patches]. Here are links to a few examples." 
But yes, it's a lot easier to just read what others think of them.

I admit guilt to "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything" on
testimonials. I've never been asked for one from someone I had negative opinions
of, though, just neutral. In that case, I just don't bother writing one.

The DMB mailing list is the right place to send concerns regarding an
applicant's suitability.
