Help requested for Ubuntu Brainstorm response on desktop login

I wrote some history and analysis, and believe that the request is
already 90% implemented in current Ubuntu releases (since 9.10). The
remainder is actually a deliberate behaviour instead of an
oversight, but there is potential for more discussion/voting. So I
found it appropriate to answer right in brainstorm (above URL).

Please let me know if you think that this should be taken to a
different forum.
