In the UK, Dell do not sell Linux boxes, and say that, if you install 
Linux on one of their laptops, the warranty is invalidated. That was the 
last I knew, anyway (a year ago). They will install Ubuntu for you, and 
warranty the laptop, but they charge several hundred pounds for the 
privilege. So a £300 laptop may cost you say £700.
