I think it depends on your Windows version. If you have one of those OEM
versions which might use the entire disk without asking, your Linux part
would be lost (obviously). However, my XP Pro install CD (or is it DVD?)
lets me select on which partition I wanted to install Windows and it
wouldn't harm an existing Linux partition. Of course it would overwrite
the boot manager, but it isn't too difficult to restore GRUB from a
LiveCD afterwards. In this case, installing Windows first would be just
a matter of convenience because I wouldn't need to restore GRUB.
