Agree!
Customization of a distro should be separate from the installer. A
special application can be created which can be made to run after
installer is complete.
This can make the installer bloat-free.
Secondly, installing packages and customization isn't so tough. If
something is tougher, then doing it manually is better suited than
letting it get done by magic (which turns out to be badly screwed)
