eBook Readers Using Free Software

I've got an Android mobile phone but the screen is too small to be
convenient.  Is there anything running free software that I could
purchase reasonably (in the UK)?

Something like the iPad would be nice as in this page:

but anything larger than my Android would be a bonus (it has even less
screen size than the pictured iPhone) - OK for phone calls, limited for
many other things.

Any suggestions/recommendations anyone?
