Watching video on a LAN

Thanks for the info and keywords James. I have settled for now on an ssh 
solution. I did post a reply to my OP with the solution (it's tagged RESOLVED) 
which details what I managed to do. If you like I will send it directly to 
you.

I am glad there are other solutions in the works because this is a basic 
'thing' that needs doing - browse and watch (and look at pics) on a LAN.
