Remember all those old computer-as-religion joke lists? They'd
typically put MacOS as Catholicism, where you have to go through the
intermediaries to get anything done; and DOS as Protestantism, where
it's just you and God and you achieve salvation through your own
efforts.

Windows has of course gone to taking care of everything for you - or
claiming to - and if you really want access to the bare metal ... it's
Linux! (Or BSD for the obscure, venerable, respected and just a little
weird sectarians.)

I'm sure we can further break up distros by denomination ...
