Good point. Maybe there should be a distinction between governments that
"deserve" a good kicking and the people that happen to live under those
governments? Quotes needed, because there is also such a thing as right
to self determination, i.e., a government that is actually supported by
its people is legitimate, however immoral it looks to outsiders.
Sounds wrong? The opposite looks worse; anecdotal evidence: "the issues
are much too important for the Chilean voters to be left to decide for
themselves" and "I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a country
go Communist due to the irresponsibility of its people."

if you despised your current government?
(Disclaimer: the fact that the guy was on the US side is incidental, I
don't have similar statements from other parties but I'm sure they were
uttered at some point)
