Actually, it originally referred to the probability of someone invoking
Nazis, Hitler, fascism, etc. in a discussion[1].
As a corollary, it is generally accepted that once Godwin's law is
invoked the debate is over, and whoever made the allusion to Nazis loses
the debate by default.
