I really appreciate the Tux logo, I believe that Tux is about the
only public branding Linux has. Most general computer users I come
across think computers *are* 'windows', and what is an operating
system anyway?

I can point out to them their choice is Windows, Tux or Mac. They dont
know what an operating system is, they certainly are not interested in
choice of Distros, but Tux is there as a single idea, a single
unifying concept, at a broad and simple level.

I would prefer that Ubuntu used Tux , although I understand and accept
they do not, and I strongly support Ubuntu.

When a much hoped for day arrives, when people I meet everyday think
in terms of computers being either Windows, Ubuntu, or Mac, then Tux
as a symbol will begin to be less relevant.

Until then Tux should mean unity and much needed central branding.
