And I'm pretty sure Firefox has a larger "mail client" market share than
Thunderbird... ;-)

Because it actually *is* the best browser of the two, despite it lacking
some integration.
The problem with Epiphany is that it lacks _internal_ consistency,
having multiple user interfaces and configuration interfaces inside the
same program, which IMNSHO sucks more than having a different user
interface between different programs...
