Update Deleting Minimize/Maximize/Close Icons on the top right corner of windows

which version are you using?  I'm not seeing this problem.   And I
suspect if it was a generalized problem, we would see quite a few
reports of this major problem on the mailing lists.

I can't seem to find a way in Gnome to configure these buttons.  But
I'm sure I have seen this before a long time ago.  Maybe in KDE?
