Very interesting read. I had never heard of this guy until today.

It never dawned on me that many of the problems I encounter with desktop
Linux were kernel-related. I always thought of them as being problems
with the program I was using itself and/or X.

I just dragged a window across the desktop and noticed it "sputter" like
he mentioned. I guess I'm so used to it, I don't think about it anymore.
 I've seen that happen in Windows XP as well (but to a lesser degree).

Speaking of X, I remember back in the Windows 3.1 days how Microsoft was
criticized for slapping a GUI on top of DOS (as opposed to the Mac's GUI
being part of the whole OS).

X-Window has been pretty much been in the same boat (and still is). It's
a GUI slapped on top of an OS. That has to be a major contributer to the
problems with desktop Linux as well.

It sounds to me like he's lost that passion. I seriously doubt he'd be
interested. That's too bad.
