You've provided some explanation yourself for why this is not necessarily
straightforward. Votes like this are easily swayed, so even if our goal
were to pursue the directions that most Launchpad users would like to see
(which isn't necessarily always true), the votes wouldn't necessarily
reflect that.
Furthermore, there are many other factors which require consideration when
planning new features, such as the amount of work required to implement
them, the requirements to test and stabilize them, the workload of the
development team, and the release schedule.
While I would be interested in seeing such statistics, and would incorporate
them into the decision process, I would want to avoid a situation where they
were used inappropriately to justify arguments.
