That's why they made Live CDs :)

Go to http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/edgy/knot-2/ and grab the
"desktop CD" image for your processor and boot from it.  You can play
with it to your heart's content (its alpha though, so it would by
definition be a bit unstable ;) and when you're done, boot back into
Dapper (nice and stable).

I myself have tried both Knot 1 and Knot 2 and neither one wants to
boot up properly on my system ;)
