You may be right but if so, I'll be damned if I can recall what I had to
do to WMP to get it to play MP3s.  In addition, this may have been with
earlier Win 9X versions.  I know for a fact that every version of WMP
that shipped with Win200 and XP supported MP3.  WMP 9 (or was it 10?)
even (finally) succumbed to public demand and offered ripping to (MP3
in addition to WMA of course).
