Enabling sharing doesn't open any additional ports; it's installing the
avahi stack which does.

The long-term strategy for this is to install avahi by default, but
disabled, and display a warning like the one you describe when the user
tries to use the functionality for the first time.  However, this is work
which has yet to begin.
