Hmm... makes me think maybe I should like Mepis more than I do
currenlty.  ;)    Absolutely hate KDE though. (Or, perhaps more
accurately: hate the way KDE is presented/configured usually, especially
including the way Mepis does it)

Also what I dislike about Mepis is that they apparently have free and
non free versions.  At that point I lose interest, as apparently I'm not
getting everything in whatever the free version is.  On Ubuntu
everything is free, there's no 'special' versions or 'server' versions
that suddenly cost money.  So...
