Cameras that support the "USB Mass Storage"[1] should work exactly like
any USB stick or USB disk.

Cameras that support PTP[2] aren't really intended to be used as normal
storage media, but AFAIK it's possible to emulate disk-like access,
using libgphoto2 and FUSE[3].
